David Romtvedt has received two NEA fellowships, the Pushcart Prize, the Wyoming Governor's Arts Award, and the Wyoming Music Educators Association Distinguished Service Award.
David's other awards include:

- Wyoming Arts Council fellowship in poetry
- Wyoming Arts council fellowship in fiction (for Zelestina Urza in Outer Space)
- Wyoming Cultural Trust Grant
- Residencies in writing and music composition at the Ucross and Centrum Foundations
- Moon was selected as one of best books of the year by the American Institute of Graphic Arts
- Distinguished Service Award, Wyoming Music Educators Association
- Best Radio Documentary Award from the National Broadcast Education Association
David's book, "A Flower Whose Name I Do Not Know", was selected
for the National Poety Series.
